Sherritt International Projects Higher Nickel and Cobalt Output at Moa Joint Venture in 2025

Sherritt International has announced expectations for increased nickel and cobalt production at its Moa Joint Venture in 2025, following a strong performance in 2024.
In 2024, the Moa facility produced 30,331 tons of finished nickel and 3,206 tons of finished cobalt. For 2025, Sherritt projects nickel production to rise to between 31,000 and 33,000 tons, while cobalt output is expected to range from 3,300 to 3,600 tons.
The company attributed the positive outlook to the completion, ramp-up, and debottlenecking of its phase two expansion at the Moa facility. Sherritt plans to enhance refinery operation efficiencies before and during the ramp-up period by procuring and processing third-party feedstock as needed, depending on market conditions.
Production is expected to be weighted towards the latter part of 2025 due to the ramp-up process and external challenges faced in the fourth quarter of 2024.
“Overall, finished nickel and cobalt production significantly benefited from the corporation's multiyear production optimization and expansion programs that have resulted in improved mining production and refining process flows, providing operational stability and improved efficiencies,” Sherritt stated. The company also highlighted that these programs were instrumental in reducing net direct cash costs.
