Implats has reported a 6% decrease in 6E Group production for the quarter ended 31 March 2025, with output totaling 780,000 ounces, compared to 827,000 ounces during the same period last year. The decline was largely driven by operational challenges, including the impact of required maintenance at South African smelters and constrained mining fleet availability at Zimplats.
While the Group’s overall 6E refined and saleable production remained stable at 716,000 ounces, the company experienced a drop in output from key mining operations. At managed operations, production fell by 6% to 617,000 ounces. Additionally, production from joint ventures (JVs) at Mimosa and Two Rivers decreased by 9% to 121,000 ounces, and third-party receipts saw a 13% decline to 41,000 ounces.
Despite these challenges, Implats reiterated its production guidance for the full fiscal year 2025, expecting to remain within previously disclosed parameters. The company also reported an improvement in safety, with a 20% reduction in the Lost-Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) compared to the prior year.
Implats’ CEO, Nico Muller, expressed confidence in the company’s ability to continue meeting its full-year production and cost guidance, despite the challenging conditions. The company’s ongoing focus on operational efficiency and safety, coupled with a robust customer demand for platinum group metals (PGMs), positions it for continued success.
