Li-Cycle Secures Second Exclusive Feedstock Agreement for German Facility

Less than a week after securing an exclusive feedstock partnership with an automotive original equipment manufacturer (OEM) for its spoke facility in Germany, Toronto-based lithium-ion battery (LIB) recycler Li-Cycle Holdings Corp. has announced another similar agreement.

The company has partnered with an additional automotive OEM to recycle LIBs at its German facility, expanding its commercial footprint in the European Union. The exclusive agreement channels feedstock from an EV production facility within the EU to Li-Cycle’s Germany site.

Li-Cycle stated that this agreement underscores the value of its recycling technology and the quality of its services. “We are delighted to recycle lithium-ion batteries and manufacturing scrap sourced from across the EU as we work to expand our commercial reach and enhance value for our global EV OEM partners,” said Li-Cycle President and CEO Ajay Kochhar.

He added, “This partnership with a leading, premium EV manufacturer will serve as a vital source of recycling feedstock for our Germany spoke, aiding our objective of offering a local and sustainable secondary supply of critical battery materials. We are excited to maintain our commitment to delivering high-quality services and products to our global partners as we develop a financially beneficial spoke network.”

Li-Cycle operates under a “spoke and hub” business model, where spent batteries are processed into black mass at spoke sites and subsequently refined into battery-grade products and other critical materials at hub sites.
