Elementos and Atlantic Copper to Test Smelting Potential for Spanish Tin Project

Elementos has entered into an industrial testwork partnership with Atlantic Copper to explore the potential for processing tin concentrate from the Oropesa Tin Project in southern Spain. The collaboration will focus on evaluating the technical and economic feasibility of smelting lower-grade tin ore into refined tin products at Atlantic’s CirCular Plant, located 245 kilometers from the mine site.

The agreement includes joint funding to produce a laboratory sample of tin concentrate from Oropesa’s lower-grade material. Atlantic Copper, a privately held firm and the largest industrial company in Andalusia, will carry out further testwork to determine whether its facilities can process this material efficiently and profitably.

The Oropesa project, operated by Elementos’ Spanish subsidiary Minas de Estaño de España, is currently in the permitting phase and progressing toward a Definitive Feasibility Study. The deposit is among the highest-grade undeveloped open-pit tin projects globally and the only active tin development within the European Union.

The project is expected to produce an average of 5,400 tonnes of tin concentrate annually, representing about 1% of the global tin market.

Elementos Managing Director Joe David said the partnership could lead to improved metallurgical recoveries, better resource utilization, and reduced waste. He also noted that the collaboration highlights a shared commitment to responsible metal production within Andalusia and the EU.
