China Sees Surge in Aluminum-Related Projects in February

Around 20 aluminum-related projects were launched or commenced operations across China in February, according to Mysteel. These developments include four projects dedicated to aluminum alloy products, while the remaining 16 focus on alumina, secondary aluminum, aluminum-based new materials, and semi-finished aluminum products.
The largest project by both capacity and investment is a fine alumina production base under Weiqiao Pioneering Group, the parent company of China Hongqiao Group. Located in Shandong province, the facility began construction on February 24 with an investment of Yuan 25.62 billion ($3.5 billion). Once completed, it will have an annual alumina production capacity of 8 million tonnes, including over 1 million tonnes of fine alumina.
Another major development is an aluminum supply chain facility in Fangchenggang city, Guangxi. Construction on the pile foundation began on February 26, backed by Yuan 20 billion ($2.7 billion) in investment from Xinjiang Joinworld. The project includes two alumina production lines, each designed to produce 1.2 million tonnes per year.
In the aluminum alloy sector, Lizhong Group commenced production at its aluminum alloy-based new materials project in Chongqing on February 6. The facility, which has an annual production capacity of 100,000 tonnes, required an investment of Yuan 600 million ($83.2 million).
