Asturiana de Zinc Receives Permit to Build Photovoltaic Plant in Castrillón

The City Council of Castrillón has granted Asturiana de Zinc (AZSA) a building permit for the installation of a photovoltaic plant covering 180,035 square meters. The decision was made during the council's weekly meeting on Thursday.

The plant will consist of 41,040 photovoltaic modules, according to a statement from the Castrillón Town Council. AZSA's project has a planned execution period of 10 months and a budget of €12.5 million ($13.4 million).

In related news, the Spanish Photovoltaic Union (UNEF) selected Avilés to present the Seal of Excellence in Storage on Wednesday. This initiative aims to establish best practices for the development of photovoltaic facilities, promoting investment guided by socioeconomic, environmental, and circular economy principles.

UNEF chose Asturias for this presentation due to the region’s potential for growth in the renewable energy sector. According to UNEF's general director, Javier Donosso, the development of photovoltaic infrastructure will significantly benefit electro-intensive companies, which have a strong presence in the area.
