Vedanta Appoints Rajiv Kumar as CEO of Aluminium Business

Vedanta, an Indian resources company, has named Rajiv Kumar as the new CEO of its Aluminium Business, effective March 26, 2025. He will also hold the title of Senior Management Personnel. Kumar, formerly with Tata Steel, brings over three decades of experience in the steel and mining sectors to his new role. Kumar's appointment is for a three-year term.
Kumar's responsibilities will include spearheading the overall strategy for the Aluminium business, including the demerger approach to maximize value and the development of strategic alliances. He will also oversee marketing and ESG initiatives. Before joining Vedanta, Kumar served as Vice President (Operations) at Tata Steel Kalinganagar. Rajesh Rajan, Head of Corporate Communications at Tata Steel, confirmed that "Rajiv Kumar has resigned from the post of Vice President (Operations), Tata Steel Kalinganagar," before moving to his new role. Kumar is an alumnus of BIT Sindri and INSEAD France.
This appointment comes as Vedanta proceeds with its plan to split the company into five independent entities. The company expects the demerger to receive final approval from the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) within the next few weeks. It will create five independent companies of a global scale focused on mining, production and/or supply of aluminum, iron-ore, copper, oil & gas, and on generation and distribution of power.
