Rain City Resources Commissions Pilot Plant for Advanced Lithium Extraction

January 31, 2025

Rain City Resources has commissioned a containerized pilot plant utilizing Avonlea Lithium Corporation's proprietary Advanced Chemical and Cavitation Extraction technology (ACCELi) for direct lithium extraction (DLE). The plant, designed for pre-commercial trials, has a flow-rate capacity of 150 barrels per day and successfully completed a wet test in Calgary. It is now prepared for shipping in three 40-foot containers and will require three days for setup with a five-person crew.

Rain City Resources is in advanced discussions with a U.S.-based water treatment operator to secure a permitted site for the pilot plant. The ACCELi process recovers lithium from brine through cavitation, inducing chemical reactions that extract lithium ions into a high-purity powdered product. The process has been commercially applied in water purification, treating over 20 million barrels of fluid over four years. Byproducts include magnesium hydroxide, calcium carbonate, and lithium phosphate, which can be converted into lithium carbonate.

Key features of ACCELi include:

  • Production of lithium phosphate (Li3PO4) with over 97% purity without additional processing steps.
  • No need for fresh water, with the potential to generate fresh water in some applications.
  • Self-sustaining heat generation through the process.
  • Generation of additional marketable byproducts such as magnesium hydroxide and calcium carbonate.
  • Operating costs comparable to or lower than existing DLE technologies.
  • Low capital expenditure and scalability compared to other DLE methods.
