MAC Copper Targets 23% Growth in Copper Production by 2026
MAC Copper aims to boost copper production by 23% by 2026, driven by expansion projects at its CSA mine in Cobar, New South Wales. Over the next 18 months, the company plans to increase output through key initiatives.
In 2024, MAC Copper raised production by 13% to 41,128 tonnes at a C1 cost of $1.92/lb. The fourth quarter saw the strongest performance under MAC ownership, with 11,320 tonnes produced at a C1 cost of $1.66/lb. By 2026, the company targets 50,000 tonnes of annual copper output, according to CEO Mick McMullen.
Two major projects will support this expansion: the QTS South Upper (QTSSU) project and the Ventilation project. The QTSSU deposit, located 150 meters below the surface, will contribute additional production, with ore mining set to begin in the fourth quarter of 2024. The Ventilation project, coming online in the third quarter of 2026, will enhance mining capacity to 1.7 million tonnes per year and improve access to deeper mine levels.
McMullen emphasized MAC’s commitment to operational improvements and cost reductions, highlighting ongoing drilling efforts to expand the mine's resource base. The company is prioritizing the Capital Vent project to maximize its mining potential at lower levels.
