Lycopodium Awarded DFS for Hydrogen Sulphide Plant at Kalgoorlie Nickel Project

February 13, 2025

Lycopodium has been awarded the Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) for the design engineering of the Hydrogen Sulphide Plant at the Kalgoorlie Nickel Project (KNP) – Goongarrie Hub in Western Australia. The project, managed by Kalgoorlie Nickel Pty Ltd (KNPL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Ardea Resources Limited, represents a large-scale, multi-decade nickel operation located 70 kilometers northwest of Kalgoorlie-Boulder in the Goldfields region.

The KNP – Goongarrie Hub hosts Australia’s largest nickel-cobalt resource and is one of the most significant nickel-cobalt and critical mineral deposits in the developed world. The DFS is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2025, with ongoing drilling to define the Measured Mineral Resource aligned with this timeline.

Lycopodium’s A$5.4 million (USD 3.5 million) contract includes the capital cost estimate and design of the Hydrogen Sulphide Plant. The plant will produce hydrogen sulphide gas to precipitate high-purity nickel and cobalt sulphide products known as Mixed Sulphide Precipitate (MSP). MSP serves as a precursor for producing electrolytic nickel and cobalt, nickel powder, and nickel sulphate, essential components in lithium-ion battery production.

Peter De Leo, Managing Director of Lycopodium Limited, stated, “We are extremely pleased to have this strategic opportunity to support the development of the Kalgoorlie Nickel Project."
