Iran’s Copper Production Increases Amid Growth in Mineral Output

The National Iranian Copper Industries Company (NICICO) reported a two percent increase in crude copper production during the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2024 - January 19, 2025) compared to the same period the previous year. According to Deputy CEO of Development & Production Kioumars Mobalegh Nasseri, production reached 254,000 tons.

NICICO also reported an eight percent rise in copper mineral production, totaling 252 million tons. Additionally, sulfur stone production increased by seven percent, surpassing 50 million tons.

The company produced 1.14 million tons of copper concentrate, marking a four percent increase year-on-year. Copper cathode output also grew by two percent, reaching 243,000 tons.

Molybdenum concentrate production saw a notable 20 percent rise to 10,100 tons. Furthermore, NICICO produced 744 tons of precious metal concentrate over the 10-month period.

Iran’s copper reserves stand at approximately 19 billion tons, with the Sarcheshmeh and Sungun mines being the country’s primary sources.
