Investors Target $8 Billion in Bauxite Projects in Vietnam’s Đắk Nông Province
Investors are showing strong interest in bauxite mining and processing projects in Vietnam's Central Highland Province of Đắk Nông, with total investment commitments reaching $8 billion, according to the provincial People’s Committee.
Under the government’s development plan, Đắk Nông will host four new bauxite mining and processing factories, each expected to cost under $1 billion. Chairman of the committee Hồ Văn Mười stated at a recent conference that it could take approximately 715 years for these projects to deplete the province's bauxite reserves.
Mười emphasized that Đắk Nông is poised for significant economic growth in 2025, stressing the need to eliminate existing barriers to fully leverage development opportunities.
Đắk Nông spans about 2,396 square kilometers of bauxite reserves, the primary source of aluminum and gallium, covering roughly one-third of the province's total area. According to Prime Minister Decision 866 (issued on July 18, 2023), bauxite ore is spread across more than 1,670 square kilometers—25% of the province’s natural area.
The province is actively collaborating with central ministries to resolve challenges related to overlapping mineral planning, particularly concerning bauxite exploitation, to accelerate project implementation.
