CleanTech Lithium Partners with DuPont to Test New Lithium Recovery Technology

CleanTech Lithium has announced a partnership with DuPont Water Solutions to test an advanced nanofiltration membrane for lithium extraction, aiming to improve efficiency and reduce costs in the production of battery-grade lithium carbonate.

The new technology, developed by DuPont, is designed to selectively remove impurities while maximizing lithium recovery. CleanTech will evaluate its performance within its direct lithium extraction (DLE) downstream process to determine whether it can eliminate the need for thermal evaporation and crystallisation—two energy-intensive steps traditionally used in lithium refining.

The potential benefits include significant capital expenditure reductions and increased operational efficiency. Testing will be conducted through CleanTech’s pilot plant operations in collaboration with Conductive Energy.
