Emirates Global Aluminium to Build First U.S. Primary Aluminium Plant in 45 Years with $4 Billion Oklahoma Investment

Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has announced plans to construct a new primary aluminium production facility near Tulsa, Oklahoma, marking the first such plant to be built in the United States since 1980. The $4 billion project is expected to nearly double U.S. aluminium output, adding 600,000 tonnes of annual production capacity at a time when the country currently imports about 85% of its aluminium needs.

The plant will be located at the Tulsa Port of Inola, a 2,200-acre industrial park with rail and barge access to major U.S. waterways. EGA has secured an exclusive land option for the site and is in advanced discussions with the Public Service Company of Oklahoma and state officials to finalize long-term power supply agreements and investment incentives. Construction is anticipated to begin by late 2026, pending completion of a feasibility study and final agreements, with first production targeted by the end of the decade.

Once operational, the facility will be the largest of its kind in the U.S., producing billets, sheet ingots, high-purity aluminium, and foundry alloys. The investment is projected to create up to 4,000 construction jobs at peak and 1,000 permanent roles, as well as 1,800 indirect jobs, supporting a broader expansion of aluminium manufacturing in the region.

Aluminium produced at the Oklahoma plant will supply key U.S. industries, including aerospace, defense, automotive, and food and beverage sectors. EGA’s move is part of a broader trend to strengthen domestic supply chains for critical minerals and reduce reliance on imports. The project also aligns with recent U.S. efforts to attract foreign investment in manufacturing and critical materials.

EGA, which already counts the U.S. as one of its largest export markets, expanded its American presence earlier in 2025 by acquiring a majority stake in Minnesota-based Spectro Alloys. The Oklahoma facility will be EGA’s only primary production plant in the U.S.

The project is part of a series of commercial agreements between the United States and the United Arab Emirates, with the White House recently announcing $200 billion in new business commitments between the two countries.
