BMI Group Invests in Destiny Copper to Boost Copper Recovery and Powder Production

BMI Group has acquired a minority stake in Destiny Copper to support the expansion of its proprietary copper recovery to copper powder (CR-to-CP) pipeline. The investment aims to accelerate Destiny’s technology, which converts industrial and mining waste into usable copper, and strengthen Canada’s presence in sustainable critical mineral production.

Destiny Copper operates out of the Bioveld Niagara multimodal enterprise campus in Ontario, a former paper mill redeveloped by BMI into a cleantech and manufacturing hub. The partnership aligns with BMI’s strategy to advance infrastructure tied to energy innovation and clean technology.

The CR-to-CP process offers a sustainable approach to metal recovery by extracting valuable resources from waste, with potential applications extending beyond traditional markets. Destiny is currently working with the Canadian Space Agency and NGen on using its copper powder as a component in rocket fuel.

The investment complements Destiny Copper’s recent $2.5 million in non-dilutive funding from FedDev Ontario, and is expected to create jobs and accelerate production at the Niagara site.

The deal reflects broader shifts in global supply chains and critical mineral strategies, as Canada seeks to expand its domestic capacity in clean and advanced manufacturing.
